I had an idea for a new product.
It all started with 5-Hour Energy. They changed the game by selling shots—taking an energy drink and shrinking it down to just two and a half ounces. Boom!
And they were incredibly successful, selling 10 million bottles a week at their peak.
They have a strong business model. I was impressed; they really only sold on the checkout countertop. (Disclaimer: I'm not a fan or customer of 5-hour Energy—I’m a 5-hours of fruit for energy guy!) Anyway…
I became interested in countertop sales. Every time I would enter a deli, a shop, or a big box store, I’d take inventory of what was selling and why. It was a crowded space and seemed difficult to penetrate. Then I noticed something—the checkout countertops at liquor stores were wide open. Untapped!
My brain was thinking... countertops, liquor stores, the success of 5-hour energy…
That's when it hit me. What if I created a line of two-and-a-half-ounce shots called Quickies?
Quickies would come in all kinds of fun flavors that are hard to pass up at checkout, like lemon drops, woo woos, cosmos, and more. Like shooters, but for the most popular and tasty party drinks. And you could grab them at the counter as low priced add-ons.
Now, there are probably some legal hurdles to this idea, and I'm not sure if it'll ever actually happen. But it's always good to throw ideas out there, right?
Anyway, here's a free startup idea if anyone wants to pursue it. Better you than sitting in my desk drawer!
