Everyone talks about morning routines, but here's what I've learned: your day doesn't start when you wake up — it starts the night before.
Think about the most successful CEOs in the country. They have two or three assistants who hand them a detailed schedule each morning. "Here's your 9 am meeting, your 10 am call, your lunch at noon."
Most of us don't have multiple assistants. But the competition's too good to wing it. So, I became my own assistant every evening.
Before bed, I lay out my entire next day: running at 7 am, kids' carpool at 8 am, 9 am call, 10 am meeting. Then when I wake up, I just follow the script.
The best CEOs wouldn't walk into their day without a plan. Why should we?
People love to say "I'm not a morning person" or "I can't get organized." But what they really mean is they haven't set themselves up for success the night before.
Your morning self is counting on your evening self to have their back. Don't let them down.
