It's My Opinion

What’s the difference between a five-star and one-star review? At their core, both are just opinions.

Opinions aren’t facts. Saying things like, “It wasn’t any good,” “It’s sad,” or “It’s not right,” doesn’t make those statements factual. They reflect personal viewpoints.

To practice self-improvement and foster more constructive dialogue, try framing your feedback as your own opinion. For instance:

  • “It wasn’t any good in my opinion.”
  • “I believe it was sad.”
  • “I don’t think it’s right.”
This approach acknowledges the subjectivity of your views and encourages respectful conversation.

For the record, since I’ve written a book myself, I’d probably never give anyone less than three stars. I know firsthand how challenging it is to write and publish a book.

Understanding the effort behind others' work reminds me to approach reviews with empathy.
