When I was a kid, my mom always made me take my vitamins. Now I have a different kind of vitamin routine - but it's just as important for staying strong mentally and emotionally.
I made a list of what I call my "daily vitamins" – the things that energize and fulfill me. For me, it's running, sauna and steam, cold plunges, playing with my kids, and this word game called Spelling Bee that I'm obsessed with. I even added walks with Sara (I don't love talking, but she does, so it made the list).
Here's the deal: I can't do all of them every day, but I make sure to take at least one or two of these "vitamins" daily. Because if work or family obligations constantly prevent me from doing the things I love, I'll start resenting them. I don't want to resent my wife or my work.
But if I check my own box – if I get my run in or my cold plunge – I show up for everything else in much better shape. When Sara wants to go to the opera (not my thing), I'm happy to go because I've already done something for myself.
Try it. Make a list of your vitamins - the things that make you feel alive and energized. Then make sure you're taking at least one or two every day.
Because just like real vitamins, these daily doses of what fulfills you aren't optional. They're essential for your well-being.
