A New Plan

I accidentally created a focus group earlier this month at Coach K's basketball clinic at the Atlanta Hawks training facility. Okay, it wasn't by accident, but that's the thing about focus groups—they're everywhere if you know where to look.

Between sessions, I started asking everyone about their planners. See, everyone there had to have some system to manage their schedule—after all, they made it to the right place at the right time. I figured, what better opportunity to do some market research?

As I polled coaches, staff, and participants about their planning systems, I kept hearing the same frustrations I've had for years: traditional planners haven't changed in a century—tiny boxes cluttered with motivational quotes nobody reads and not nearly visual enough.

For the past year, I've been working on a solution. I wanted to create a planner that combines the best of both worlds: a desktop calendar's visual impact with a planner's portability. You know, something with larger boxes, a month-at-a-glance view, and none of the fluffy stuff that takes up space.

The result? A planner that opens up like a desktop calendar (22" x 14") but folds to easily fit in your bag. It has a dry-erase whiteboard page for daily to-do lists, a year-at-a-glance mini Big A## Calendar, and tons of useful features —no fluff.

While Einstein gave us relativity, my wife Sara jokes that her husband created a giant calendar. Guilty as charged. But hey, sometimes the best innovations aren't about inventing something entirely new—they're about making our everyday tools work better for us.

Because even Einstein probably would've benefitted from a better way to visualize time.
